Controversial Nigerian content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after spending 11 days at the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre in Lagos.
His release was confirmed by his lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, who announced the development in a post on Instagram. Shortly after regaining his freedom, DJ Chicken also took to social media to inform his followers, simply writing, "I'm back."
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also confirmed that the content creator had been released and had reunited with his family and loved ones after meeting his bail conditions.
DJ Chicken was remanded following his arraignment before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations that he threatened Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a viral video circulated on social media.
According to the prosecution, the case involves charges bordering on alleged cybercrime, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and making threats to kill. However, DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read before the court.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the magistrate granted the social media personality bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with conditions that included providing suitable sureties. Following the fulfilment of the bail requirements, prison authorities processed his release.
The case has generated widespread discussion across social media, with supporters welcoming his release while others maintained that the legal process should be allowed to take its course.
Legal experts note that the grant of bail does not amount to an acquittal, as the criminal proceedings will continue in court until the matter is determined. They also stressed that every defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
