The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to train 10,000 residents in industry-relevant skills across technology, construction, fashion, health, and business sectors as part of efforts to boost employment opportunities and strengthen human capital development in the state.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu announced the initiative during the Omniverse Africa Summit 3.0 held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. The summit was organised by Omniverse Africa in partnership with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) under the theme, "Connected Future: Synergy for Impact."
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the governor said the programme is designed to prepare Lagos residents for opportunities in rapidly expanding sectors of the economy while equipping them with practical and market-driven skills.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the state's broader agenda of empowering residents through skills development, entrepreneurship support, and access to employment opportunities.
The training programme is expected to be implemented through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), an agency that has previously facilitated skills acquisition programmes, business support initiatives, internships, and employment opportunities for thousands of Lagos residents.
