A female farmer has been killed and two others critically injured following an attack by suspected armed bandits in Gwom-Ajang, Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State. The violent incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, while the victims were actively harvesting groundnuts on their farmland.

Local community sources confirmed that the assailants opened fire without provocation before fleeing into nearby bushes.

Confirming the attack, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, condemned the continuous targeting of agrarian communities during the harvest season.

The injured victims were evacuated from the farm location by community members and transported to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

The latest ambush adds to a series of recurring security breaches across vulnerable agrarian districts in Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Riyom LGAs.

Civil society organizations and youth bodies across the state have called on the Plateau State Police Command and the military joint task force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), to deploy tactical patrols to farming communities to safeguard agricultural workers throughout the harvest period.

As of press time, response efforts and ongoing search operations by security agencies to track down the fleeing assailants remain active across the axis.
